ISD Council recently held a Focus Group Discussion about “Broadcasting in the Digital Era”, as an avenue to share views and have a constructive dialogue pertinent with the ongoing talk of revision to the Broadcasting Law. The discussion was a continuation to similar event held last year, highlighting different type of digital broadcasting besides the Users Generated Contents (UGCs), which is Over the Top (OTT) Video Streaming or also commonly called Online Curated Contents (OCCs). Dave Laksono (Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives) in his remarks acknowledged that the media landscape experiences dynamic change due to technology and shifts in consumption patterns. Therefore, he would welcome feedback to the ongoing discussion of the revision of law in order to aim for a regulatory framework that is fit for use and align with the latest development. Our heartfelt gratitude to Syahda (Researcher at the Institute for Economic and Community Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia) who shared her study on the Economic Impact of the Screen Industry and Hermawan Sutanto (Chairman of the Indonesian Video Streaming Association/AVISI), who share insights on the Changing Media Landscape and Consumption Habit – Traditional broadcasters vs streaming platforms. Also thank you to all participants who were attending and actively involved in the productive discussion. We hope the conversation could contribute to Indonesia in accelerating the digital services and becoming one of the creative economy hubs in Southeast Asia.
