The ISD Council held a courtesy meeting with the Vice Minister of Trade, Ministry of Trade (Dyah Roro) to introduce the organization, share insights and discuss the importance of services sector in Indonesia. Accompanied by the Director General of Domestic Trade (Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan) and the Director of Electronic Commerce and Trade in Services, Ministry of Trade (Rifan Ardianto), the meeting discussed many important matters in trade in services, aspects relevant to Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE), and how trade could amplify to support the grow of Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprices. Services sector in Indonesia contributes 53% to GDP in 2023. Services as part of the Global Value Chain also increase exports and open up cross-border trade, especially with the digital transformation in services due to technological advances. Services sector also provides 49% of total employment, with balanced female participation in the workforce. However, some challenges remain in terms of data availability, complex matrix of supervising institutions, and supports to the business ecosystem to improve the competitiveness. The Vice Minister warmly welcomes the insights and encourages further engagement to jointly boost the trade of services by expanding the market both domestic and overseas and improve the competitiveness in the international market.
