The ISD Council had an introductory meeting with the new Director General of Domestic Trade, Ministry of Trade to share insight and discuss about the services sector in Indonesia. Accompanied by the Director of Electronic Commerce and Trade in Services, Ministry of Trade (Rifan Ardianto), the meeting had fruitful discussion on many important points in trade of services and aspects relevant to Electronic Commerce (Perdagangan Melalui Sistem Elektronik/”PMSE”). ISD Council conveyed that services are significant in terms of the contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as engine of economic growth, and job creation. However, as Indonesia services are still heavily reliant on import as production input, the high import cost would likely affect the country competitiveness to export. Also, participation in Global Value Chain (GVC) and market access to global network is instrumental to increase the services export. The role of trade is to enable the conducive environment for the sector to continue growing and become the catalyst of innovation. ISD Council is ready to support the Ministry of Trade in making this happen. To conclude the meeting, ISD council handed over the Policy Paper that had been published as a reference for future discussion.
